Are the recent amazing number of school campus shootings, by both children and young adults, our fault? I mean, "our" as in our Society's fault? Why is this happening in this country, and what can we do about it?
I hate to define, then describe, a problem within our borders, without also giving my "spin" as to a solution! That is just the way I am made-up. Constructive Criticism, is the only term I can use for my wanting to be more than a winning coward. I'm driven to try.

And I think, right there, is our problem in within this Society of America!
We use terms! The wrong terms! If you think this is so simple as to be a wildly thrown "dart" at a target, which is both increasing in size, and swinging in a wider arc. Then try on this latest written headline I saw on the television itself, when "breaking" the story! "Child shoots Amish School". I doubt that they meant some child had shot a school. The meaning is only clear in it context, and its awesomeness, its terrible consequence!
We have started down a road that will destroy our Society! I used to hear this and laugh! Like so many other things, the old people that I grew up around, not only in my family, but in my very small Texas town, were right! I was the fool!
Was is a term I misuse here. "Was", is incorrect. "I am", is a better descriptive phrase here.
I'm a fool, because I continue to think all people are what they are because their condition, within our Society is up to them! They, I think, still to a point, (and I might be wrong here!) that people's lives are up to them. It is their responsibility to stay straight, healthy (if they can.), mentally stable. (don't I wish!) And it is our duty to feed, cloth, and educate, the young in our Society. But, also to nurture. Here, I think, is the place we fail.
In this REPUBLIC (no democracy exists within the borders of America! Because I, and many others, say so!) we up-hold the Founding Fathers ideas and ideals written upon our corporate charter! (corporate used here is not "corporate" in business exactly, but is much the same.) They wrote their design of a lasting Republic. On purpose! They knew a lot more about politics than you or I. They knew what a Republic is. They knew what a Democracy was. The two "terms" are not the same thing. Never were. Never going to be!
In a REPUBLIC, for which we stand, the individual has rights that, for the most part, over-rides that of the whole population of this countries citizens. In a DEMOCRACY, that condition, thus the "term" is just the opposite! In a Democracy, the individual's rights are weakened, being much less consideration in law and justice. The population of the citizenry is the "ruling" ideal of a country.
Terms are very important. Context that terms are used in, is also important. An example would be to say; "Whoa!" And also to say; "Whoa Dude!" In this countries vernacular, the "Whoa!" could mean, "Stop you dumb horse." The "Whoa Dude" would mean "Stop you (redacted by Author).
There is a big difference, isn't there? The same words can connate different meanings. In history especially, terms used in the past to describe persons and events, and even employment, has changed from era to era. From Old Elizabethan English, to whatever the heck we are using today. I think, in Texas it could only be termed; "Spanlish". That term works for me.
The Political ramifications that it connotes, is not working for me! But lets not digress. I can get way off right or left on any subject. I ain't kidding you here!
Terms, especially those used in songs, movies, videos, and on T-shirts, are able to influence our children, if only to think in a different way. Exposure to this sort of propaganda is both a good thing, and a bad thing, for our children and ourselves. (propaganda is the right term here.)
An input of ideas and ideals is a good thing. Even when that input is violent, funny, disrespectful, and for the older children (and adults!), immoral. All of these are terms used to describe in general terms "input" into our brains and thoughts from all available sources within our Society. I am not trying to modify my use of the terms here. Only bowing to thought that, as a whole, it is both good and bad. And giving a humble nod to the fact that, in this Society, we can do little to halt either one!
Why are our school children killing other school children? Because our adults are killing other adults. It really is that simple, you know?
As "our" (meaning every adult within our Society) adults kill other adults, we do not take it very importantly! I know you may disagree, but in the past, if some "monster" killed some little old Granny, we sent that sucker to the gallows. now a days, we just pat him on the back, and give him expensive Mental therapy, until we release him! Right back into our Society. Which is, and should be, a model, a base, reflecting our Social and personal morals.
Just in case you think I am being too conservative here. I do not "believe" (strange term to me!) in Capitol Punishment. I figure if I ain't willing to shoot or stab someone, I shouldn't be allowed to "believe" in having someone else do so. And I am not now, willing to kill anyone. As I have done in the past.
No! I am not clearing my conscious here. I can't even if I wanted to, clean my bloody hands. I am not "confessing" my sins here. I am only stating fact, that during war in Vietnam, I might have been a little more than careless where I pointed my gun.
But, that was as a sailor in a war. Not as a school child, bringing "Daddy's gun" to school to wipe out my detractors! (supposed enemies.) This is totally different, and not just within my mind. It is in fact, different from committing murder, in its context. But it does show that outside contact with the propaganda, (In this case, the Military propaganda and training.) and its influence, (I was only seventeen when I enlisted.) on young people is able to be interpreted towards any needed program, be it destructive, or constructive, in nature.
With every television show, movie, billboard, song, and book, we expose, and thus condone to a point, murder of others. Or you can use the term "killing' of others if your mind objects to the term "murder" to mean "all" actions of that sort by any person, for any reason. You see then, and probably agree, that "terms" are very important. You may have problems with my including every "input" source, such as books.
Do books really cause, by mere reading them, our children in our Society, to murder (kill)? The answer is yes. Of course it does! But only to a degree. Like everyone in our Society must take responsibility for their actions. Just because a person might be returned from Iraq, where they were involved in many actions of firefights and killing, is not justification of the act of subsequent murders by that person. Not under our law. It may be taken into consideration, during the "sentencing" phase, but basically, under our adopted English laws, murder is seen as murder!
This works. In our Society we have a base that may be "base", but it works to stop violence. Or it once did! Now, we have school kids killing school kids because the child him, or her, self, is both unable to cope with who they see themselves as, and this constant input of "propaganda" of violence and murder has to be "processed" by their young minds at the same time as they are learning, and being confronted with our whole world.
This is an action-reaction; that is much like what happens inside a military boot camp. That experience, hopefully does not expose anyone not able to understand and cope with its awesome shock; of violent, although be it verbal, more than actually physical, is able to "weed-out', those that have a mind less capable to understand and process input of this sort as if actual adults in war. They, the "rooted-out" persons, if not rooted out soon enough, can "flip-out" as my generation used to "term" it, and start shooting! Shooting both their persons in their own ranks, whom they have deemed "not fit to live with me", and also anyone wearing a "toilet-seat" on his head! This is more common than you would think. This turning on your "own". It is from an inability to cope, or process, the many pressures of their environment, both inside the "organization", in this case "barracks" in boot camp, or "home", or "school", which is all squeezed together in the military boot camp. It is home/school/organization/peers, to the young person. But they are supposed to have been taught by other 'organs" within our Society to be able to accomplish this "molding into "manhood" (I use that term in order to be general and inclusive.)
The school child, from the very first grade of school, if not earlier, is faced with pressure in his or her life. Pressure does not lessen as they progress. It increases. And so does the input we were discussing before. Pressure from others, from their "peers" and teachers, and athletics, and home life, and any other organization the young are taking part in, during their formative formal school years, (And let me tell you, that is a long list these days!)all affect both his deportment and his mind.
If there is too much pressure, or it is channeled through a "wrong" input source, then the output from the child is going to reflect the very things that he sees "us" (all inclusive here.)do within our Society.
So the conclusion is the same as the solution. Basically, stop killing one another!
Sounds simple don't it? But it is fact. If as a young man or woman, lets say, out of school, and just employed, fall in with a "bad crowed", much as your mother warned you of. What do you do with the "pressure" you are placed under, both in your conscious mind, and in your "learned" experiences and tutoring by both life and your parents? To "process" this, you may only have to do and say, "NO! I don't want to be involved with you (people or persons, or act) any longer!"
Sometimes it is very much tougher. You may become "known" yourself as one of this less than Socially correct grouping. Whether they be wild auto racing on streets, or holding up bars, banks, or people. The pressure is, to a degree just the same. IT COMES FROM THE SAME SOURCE. Both within your head, and your surroundings, as well as the people around you. Coming from all these sources, both inside the "group", your home life, and work life, and from your own brain.
This is because your "Id" (pronounced eeee dddd), and other parts of your bring are actively trying to process this input, from all sources, and cause your brain to come to a conclusion; a solution; that will keep it, and thus you, alive! This action, believe it or not, comes about from all the "bad" and "good" input your brain has taken in as "source" material of fact, in order for you; and it; to "grow". As we call this process. To make an example, I would like to quote, using an exert from one of my books. Using this example "source" is "hawing my work", which is allowed here to a degree. But it also illustrates the thinking done under stressful pressures within the young persons mind in a complex unbelievable environment. You have not seen stress, until you are involved in a crazy war zone! I ain't kidding you here! And also, I am tired of typing. I need a break.

No sound came to his ear. Only the far-away sounding of an electrical "conch-shell" like hollow echo came from the receiver he held at his ear. A rage came over him! He suddenly wanted to kill Captain Dang! He wanted to rush into the room; confront the Captain; and then shoot the (redacted by Author to keep within guidelines.)! He wanted this game of "cat and mouse" over! He wanted to go back to "the real world"! He wanted to take Thuy Na with him! "Ong manh gioi cho?" "How are you?" He asked in her Vietnamese.
"I'm fine." Thuy Na's low voice came to him from a tightened throat, "Toi manh nhu tudong." He knew then, she was not fine! She was scared! Very scared!
"Let me speak to him, Captain Dang. Put him on the phone." C.W. was going to control his fear. He was going to control this situation as much as he could. If he could. He wanted to keep Thuy Na alive, and get her out of this situation. And then he would; as she had wanted him to do all along; run away!
"He would desert from the U.S. Navy! (redacted; ditto) them and the horse they rode in on! He had had it with all the "cat and mouse games"! The not knowing (stuff), coupled with the danger of dying on the river in a firefight with "Charles", was actually killing him! His nerves were causing him to die!"
"He would take Thuy Na and go somewhere, anywhere the Navy would not find him. He wondered if the U.S. Government was even perusing deserters from Vietnam? Many servicemen must have "flipped" out and lost their souls to the (unsure, so ditto) in Washington during this screwed up war!"
"A war run by idiots! "(redacted major ditto)" people that could get elected, making war when they had never served in the military! Or persons who had only their pocketbooks to consider! How stupid he was to fall for the "Communist Conspiracy" and the "Domino" theory! (not sure, so ditto), the conspiracy he had to worry about was the Capitalistic Theory of "Every man for himself"! The only theory to fear was the one of "let someone else's kid die" theory!"
You begin to see, from this example, that there is pressure in war upon youth; inexperienced, and nieve, persons. Pressure that could, and has, caused them to react in the only way their brain knows. Violence is a "remembered" action. Carrying out of that "remembered" solution; violence; is also from sources much like the "remembered action" itself. And if it is from a source that is both seemingly condoned, like in a war movie, would condone killing in its context; and seen as, or identified by the young person as being "manly" or "ladylike?" action; that is, in some instances (such as when the brain cannot process any other solution), is possible due to the brains "self-condoning" while "growing up" in whatever environment it grew up in. Thus its use, is much the same as only seeing it displayed, or read, or verbal, from its source.
In conclusion, it is possible, to have a child see nothing what so ever, other than violence, gravitate, using thought processes we all use, to act out the, to his brain, only solution to pressure!
What is the solution? We can stop the pressure. Stop the "input" at its source. Or, with guidance, change the "input" from all sources by counseling the child.
Yep! Its about parenthood! Until they should have a better chance to understand the ramifications of their actions. Then, they are responsible. Not the parent. Our laws say, in essence; "Time is not a factor. Nor is parenting skills of the chides parents!" This has to be. Due to the ramifications if it is not held as being true. If this was not held to be a truism under our laws, people would be driven to, getting away with, murder! Think about it.
And always remember; "The hand is quicker than the eye;" but only, if the hand is quicker than the eye!
